Mr. OLIVARES
My background, and my experiences thus far, all play a major part in forming my role as an emerging physical education educator. My objective is to make physical education a positive, engaging, enjoyable experience where students can be challenged, be creative, be physically active.
I enjoy teaching and coaching because I want to pass on my passion and love for sports to my students. I will teach them everything I know and love about athletics and living a healthy lifestyle. I want students to know that goals and dreams are something everyone should have; you are never too young or too old to dream, set goals, work towards them, and achieve them.
Physical activity is all about finding what you as an individual enjoy. If I can help students find at least one activity that they enjoy doing and incorporate it into the curriculum, students will find participating in physical activity more pleasurable and therefore become more likely to choose to be physically active outside of my class and throughout their life. In my PE classes I will cover a wide range of sports and recreational activities that promote both student independence, teamwork, communication, and cooperation. I believe being able to work well with others it is a very important skill for one to have and physical education is a perfect opportunity for students to put it into practice.
Creating a class that students feel safe and comfortable in is optimal for a positive learning experience. I want my classroom to be a secure learning environment where students can freely express themselves and not have to worry about being judged. I will have a positive, encouraging attitude as well a strong sense of confidentiality so that students will be motivated to take risks and push themselves in physical education and feel comfortable asking questions in health. The class climate will be set for growth and be supportive of personal discovery and development. Physical activity is essential for a long, healthy life. I want to make sure my students are leaving my class with a positive image of physical activity and a desire to continue being active and healthy for the rest of their lives. No matter what path a person chooses to follow in life, everyone needs the functional knowledge and skill to be healthy.
